Struggling Teams Square Off
The St. Louis Blues continue their four-game homestand tonight at Enterprise Center against the Calgary Flames.
In a sentence I did not expect to write more than a month into the season, it’s a matchup of the two teams with the fewest points in the NHL.
Blues Dominate Flames
The Blues are taking some baby steps up the standings with a 2-1-1 record over their last four games, but they missed out on a valuable second point against Seattle this past Saturday after the 6-on-5 struggles reared their ugly head in a 4-3 overtime loss.
The good news is the Blues are facing an opponent tonight that they have owned in recent years, as they’ve won seven straight meetings with the Flames. The Blues have also taken 11 of the last 12 meetings and 15 of the last 17.
Flames In A Funk
The Flames are the worst team in the NHL with their 4-11-2 record, and one of those losses came in Calgary back on October 11th when the Blues took their measure by a final score of 4-2.
The Flames have lost two straight games, with both of those defeats coming via shutout.
My Pick
It’s a little scary taking the over when the Flames have been held scoreless in each of their last two games - but I think it’s the right play tonight.
Both teams have been very profitable to the over this season, with the over going 10-6 in St. Louis games and 11-6 in Calgary games.
The over has been a particularly good bet when the Blues are a favorite like they are tonight, with the over cashing in seven of those nine instances.
Also, the over hit in last month’s meeting in Calgary with the total being 5.5 like it is this evening. I think this total should be set at 6, so I’ll gladly take the half-goal of value.
Pick: Over 5.5 at -125 on DraftKings (bet to -135)
